Family Resources

PADIA

Our Parent Association is led by all parent volunteers. Since the school’s opening in 2004, passionate parents have joined together to work with DIA to enhance the educational experience for our children, support our teachers, and support the parents. This organization is managed by a parent volunteer Leadership Committee, which organizes and executes events in the classrooms and school-wide events such as the Fall Festival and Teacher Appreciation Week.

We encourage all families to join PADIA. The cost is only $25 per family annually. Download the PADIA membership form.

Your $25 membership fee helps to fund free events during the year including the Fall Festival and the end of the year celebration and also provides the funds needed for the school-wide Teacher Appreciation Week and to allow the board to organize parent meetings on topics relevant to our children and their development. If you would like to become more involved than membership, there are opportunities such as serving as Room Parent or being on the PADIA Leadership Committee.

SECURITY AND SAFETY

Safety and security of our students, teachers and staff is paramount at Daniel Island Academy. The definition of safety and security is multifaceted, especially when dealing with young children and we take great pride in our protocols, infrastructure and training. Although we are a private school, we are a licensed facility (unlike many other private preschools) which means many of our rules and restrictions are governed by DSS, the Fire Marshall and other regulatory agencies. We strive to institute measures that are above and beyond standard recommendations and requirements.

A few security and safety measures include:

  • All drop-offs and pick-ups occur at the classroom inside the school
  • Limited pick-up authorization
  • Recently updated digital cameras inside and outside
  • Emergency call buttons in multiple locations inside and outside; 911 access from classrooms
  • Immunization requirement policy
  • Background checks and drug screenings performed on all teaching staff, staff and administration before employment
  • Random drug screenings for all employees
  • Extensive staff training on evacuation, CPR, intruder and other emergency procedures
  • Data breach protocols established for identity protection
  • The no outside food safety rule strongly enforced all year long

ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS

To compliment our curriculum, we hand-pick enrichment programs that offer the best opportunity for additional development opportunities outside the classroom through art, sports, science, dance, music, creative play or literacy. Parents sign students up for their choice of activities which occur on-site during the day. These programs encourage children to explore new interests, develop new skills and make new friends from other classrooms.  Classes are conducted outside on the playgrounds or in the multi-purpose rooms (MPR).  If there is inclement weather, outside classes will go to the MPR.  Check out our current options here.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

Birthday celebrations are encouraged so your child may share this special day with friends and classmates. However, due to outside food restrictions so that children with food allergies are protected, we provide a tasty alternative complete with yummy cupcakes, fruit and drinks. Plus, the birthday honoree is presented with a Happy Birthday Balloon and decorated DIA t-shirt! We also welcome parents, siblings, grandparents and special guests to join in the celebration. The cost is $3.75 per child. Review all the details on the Birthday Celebration Reservation Form.
